§ 54-1198. Generally.

  • (a)

    When upon any street during the period from sunset to sunrise, every motorcycle shall carry one lighted lamp and every motor vehicle two lighted lamps showing white lights, or lights of a yellow or amber tint, visible at least 500 feet in the direction toward which each motorcycle or motor vehicle is proceeding, and each motor vehicle, trailer, or semitrailer shall also exhibit at least one lighted lamp which shall be so situated as to throw a red light visible for at least 500 feet in the reverse direction, provided, that every trailer having a gross weight of 3,000 pounds or less, including the weight of the trailer and maximum load, shall be equipped with two lighted lamps, one on each side of the rear of such trailer, which shall be so situated as to throw a red light visible for at least 500 feet in the reverse direction.

    (b)

    All vehicles, including animal-drawn vehicles, not specifically required to be equipped with lamps by other provisions of this division, shall, during the period from sunset to sunrise, be equipped with at least one lighted lamp or lantern exhibiting a white light visible from a distance of 500 feet to the front of such vehicle and with a lamp or lantern exhibiting a red light visible a distance of 500 feet to rear.
