 Article IV. VEHICLE LICENSES

  § 54-331. Surrender or transfer of license upon sale of vehicle.

  • (a)

    Immediately upon the sale of a vehicle licensed under this article, when such sale is made prior to the date of expiration of such license, the vendor shall remove the license tag or emblem provided for in this article from such sale and shall send notification of such sale, showing the date thereof, the license number of the vehicle sold and the name and address or place of business of the purchaser, to the village manager, and thereupon such license tag or emblem shall cease to apply to the vehicle so sold, except where the vendor shall notify the village manager of his desire to transfer to the purchaser of the vehicle the license issued therefor.

    (b)

    Whenever the owner of any vehicle licensed under this article, before the expiration of such license, sells or otherwise disposes of such vehicle, and notifies the village manager of such sale, and thereafter acquires another vehicle of the same class as that for which the license was originally issued and decides to use such license on the new vehicle, such owner shall make application to the village manager for transfer of such license, giving such detailed description of the new vehicle as was required in the original application. It shall then be permissible, upon payment of a transfer fee in the amount specified in the village fee schedule and surrender of the old license, for the village manager to authorize the transfer of such license to the vehicle designated.

    (c)

    Whenever the vendor of any vehicle licensed under this article notifies the village manager of his desire to transfer to the purchaser of such vehicle the license so issued, and when application for transfer of such license is made to the village manager by the purchaser of such vehicle, upon payment of a transfer fee in the amount provided in the village fee schedule to the village manager, it shall be permissible for the village manager, upon surrender of the old license, to transfer such license to such purchaser, for use only on the particular vehicle for which such license was originally used.
