§ 46-396. Backfilling and pavement replacement.

  • Any person obtaining a permit under this division shall backfill all excavations in any pavement, street, alley or other public ground in accordance with the following requirements:

    (1)

    Tunneling will not be allowed in excess of two feet under the pavement except in unusual circumstances as determined by the director of public works.

    (2)

    All trench excavations shall be backfilled and the material compacted in accordance with Article 550.07 of the latest version of the Illinois Department of Transportation's Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction. Method 1 which consists of depositing the backfill material in uniform lifts not exceeding 12 inches in depth, and compacting by mechanical means shall be used to compact the trench backfill.
