§ 22-49. Fire chief duties.

  • (a)

    The fire chief shall have control and command over all persons connected with the fire department while on duty and he shall possess authority over the organization, government and discipline of such department and, to that end, he may prescribe and establish from time to time such rules and regulations as he may deem advisable, subject to the approval of the village manager.

    (b)

    It shall be the duty of the fire chief, if in his power, to attend all fires happening in the village. In the absence of the fire chief at any fire, it shall be the duty of the officer in command of the fire company first on the ground at such fire to take charge of the firefighters present and, during such absence of the fire chief, such officer in charge shall have and exercise all the powers of the fire chief.

    (c)

    The fire chief shall have responsibility for engines, hose carts, trucks, ladders, electric lines and all property and equipment belonging to the fire department.
